Shooting in Utrecht: multiple shots fired in an Utrecht tram, several wounded reported

Several people were wounded by shots fired in a tram in Utrecht at around 10.45 this morning. Early reports suggest that a man started firing off shots randomly.

Emergency services are on their way to 24 Oktoberplein in Kanaleneiland, including three trauma helicopters.

Utrecht shooting: no arrests yet

The shots were fired at around 10.45 am. The police are investigating the reason. It is still unclear how many people are injured.

No one has been arrested yet. So if you’re in the Kanaleneiland area you might want to be a bit careful and keep your eyes open for suspicious behavior.

The police is considering every option, and it seems to be a terrorist attack in Utrecht.

What’s happening in Utrecht at Kanaleneiland?

The area around the square, in the west of Utrecht, has been closed off. Tram traffic has stopped. The police are calling on people via Twitter to let social workers do their work. “Keep the roads clear for them.”
